Day 2: Sunday 12 May 2024

Christchurch to Hokitika (via Greymouth)

The TranzAlpine Scenic Train

Breakfast included at your hotel this morning before departing for the train station.

At 8.15am depart on the world-famous TranzAlpine train in the Scenic Plus carriage –breakfast, lunch and beverages included onboard.

Cross the Canterbury Plains, the Waimakariri River and the Southern Alps mountain range before experiencing the beech and rainforest of the West Coast. Upon arrival in Greymouth at approximately 1.05pm explore even further off the beaten track by coach to Punakaiki Pancake Rocks.

Arrive at your hotel late afternoon.

Hokitika to Franz Josef

Explore the West Coast

After breakfast at your hotel, we depart Hokitika and enjoy a special treetop walkway experience before driving by coach down the West Coast to Franz Josef.

Franz Josef glacier is quite unique in that it survives in coastal rainforest temperatures.

Perhaps take a spectacular scenic plane or helicopter flight to experience the glacier in the more detail.

Group dinner this evening.

Franz Josef to Queenstown

A Unique Road Trip Adventure

Departing Franz Josef after breakfast we head off to explore the Haast Pass.

Travelling by river boat and private coach, marvel at the beaches, crystal blue lakes and rivers, mountain peaks, lush vineyards, charming plains and majestic glaciers as your Tour Director guides you between local hidden gems. Stop in unique locations that only locals know about.

Emerging on the other side of the pass, explore the local fruit hotspot – Mrs. Jones’ Fruit Stall before exploring the cobblestone streets of Arrowtown. After an exciting plunge into the history of this gold rush village, you will arrive in the world- famous resort town of Queenstown!

Milford Sound

Explore Milford Sound

We depart early this morning on a full day trip to spectacular Milford Sound. Once in Milford get close to nature and enjoy the majesty of Milford Sound on a cruise that explores the full length of the fjord. Be prepared to get up close to some incredible waterfalls and if you’re lucky you might see some dolphins.

Option to upgrade to fly back to Queenstown (ask for details and costs).
